Luis Schlichting

Dr. Luís Henrique Schlichting is an Associate Professor of Operative Dentistry in the Division of Comprehensive Oral Health, Adams School of Dentistry of UNC, Chapel Hill, NC.
Dr. Schlichting was born and raised in Florianópolis, south Brazil where he obtained his DDS (1995), specialty certificate (1999), MS (2006) and PhD degree in Operative Dentistry (2010) from the Federal University of Santa Catarina and his BBA (1995) from the Santa Catarina State University. As part of his Ph.D., he was a Visiting Research Associate at the University of Southern California, Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry, Los Angeles, from September 2008 to January 2010, to conduct his doctoral research under the supervision of Prof. Pascal Magne. 
From 2011-2013 he was an Assistant Professor in the Department of Prosthodontics and Dental Materials, Dental School of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. In October of 2013, he returned to the US staying for 1 year as a Visiting Professor in the College of Dental Medicine, Nova Southeastern University, Florida, and most recently, has spent the last five years at East Carolina University (ECU).
Dr. Schlichting has published over 18 clinical and research articles on esthetic and adhesive dentistry. He also co-authored among others the book “Routes for Excellence in Restorative Dentistry: Mastery for Beginners and Experts” translated into three languages which was awarded by the Brazilian Book Council with the Jabuti Literary Award in 2011. He has lectured in Brazil, USA, and Europe including hands-on courses.  
Dr. Schlichting is a recipient of grants from the Foundation for Research Support in the State of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He also received the Outstanding Faculty Award from the School of Dental Medicine’s graduating Class of 2017 and the 2018 Judson C. Hickey Scientific Writing Award in the clinical report category from The Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry. He is part of the Bio-Emulation think-tank group and maintains a private office in Florianopolis, Brazil where he worked for 14 years.
