Dr. Jeffrey Platt
The academy is most pleased to recognize the exceptional work, innovation, and lifetime achievements of Dr. Jeffrey Platt. His contributions have greatly advanced the field of Operative Dentistry.
Dr. Jeffrey A. Platt is a 1984 graduate of the Indiana University School of Dentistry. After 4 years of active service in the U.S. Navy Dental Corps, he earned an M.S. in Dental Materials in 1996 while maintaining a full-time private practice in Fort Wayne and teaching part-time at IPFW. He accepted the appointment of Director of IU’s Division of Dental Materials in 2000, is the Ralph W. Phillips Professor in Dental Materials and serves as the Chair of the Department of Biomedical Sciences and Comprehensive Care. Dr. Platt has authored over 140 manuscripts and 170 research abstracts primarily focused on adhesive dentistry and resin composites. He has mentored over 50 MSD and PhD students who are now serving dentistry around the world. He has served as President of the Indianapolis District Dental Society, has many years of service in the IDA House of Delegates and as part of the 7th District ADA Delegation, was the IDA Speaker of the House, and served as Chair for the ADA Council on Scientific Affairs. He served as President of the Dental Materials Group of the International Association for Dental Research. Dr. Platt is in his fifteenth year as the Editor-in-Chief of the journal Operative Dentistry. He is a fellow of the American College of Dentists, International College of Dentists, Pierre Fauchard Academy, the Academy of General Dentistry, and has been a member of the Academy of Operative Dentistry since 1996. He is currently Chair of the ADA Standards Committee for Dental Products, a convener and US Head of Delegation to the International Standards Organization Technical Committee 106-Dentistry, the Chair of the FDI World Dental Congress Science Committee and maintains a small private practice in the office of Dr. Kellie Schaub in Indianapolis. He married his wife, Catherine, in 1981. They have five children and seven grandchildren.
