Vice President and Science Officer Delta Dental of Wisconsin

Dr. Eichmiller is a graduate of the University of Minnesota with Degrees in Dentistry and Mechanical Engineering. He was in private practice for five years and has had dental teaching assignments at the University of Minnesota, the University of Texas San Antonio, the University of Washington Seattle, Howard University in Washington, DC, and the Navy Dental School in Bethesda, MD.

Dr. Eichmiller is currently Vice President and Science Officer for Delta Dental of Wisconsin. Prior to this position he served for eight years as Chief Clinical Research Scientist and twelve years as Managing Director of the American Dental Association Foundation's Paffenbarger Research Center, a dental research enterprise operated by the American Dental Association's Foundation. The center, located in Gaithersburg, Md., engages in cooperative dental and medical materials research with government scientists and others, helping to develop standards, treatments, instruments and materials used by dentists nationwide. Dr. Eichmiller has published an array of academic papers and twelve patents reflecting research on dental restorative materials and other topics. He serves on numerous panels and committees for the National Institutes of Health, the International Standards Organization, and the American National Standards Institute. Dr. Eichmiller serves on the editorial review panels for the Journal of the American Dental Association, The Journal of Dental Research, Operative Dentistry, The American Journal of Dentistry, The Journal of Dentistry, and as assistant editor to The Journal of Biomedical Materials Research.

SECRETARY - Dr. Richard G. Stevenson III

Doctor Stevenson received his Bachelors Degree in Chemistry from UCLA in 1982 and his Doctor of Dental Surgery from the UCLA School of Dentistry in 1986. After practicing general dentistry for 8 years in Laguna Niguel, California, he sold his private practice and accepted a full time teaching position at the UCLA School of Dentistry, as an Assistant Professor in the Section of Operative Dentistry. For four years he served as the Chair of the Pre-Clinical Operative Dentistry Course where he authored a comprehensive illustrated syllabus of Operative Dentistry. Dr. Stevenson III has been recognized by his students on two occasions as the Teacher of the Year, and has received numerous additional teaching awards from five different classes of students. Dr. Stevenson received a Fellowship Award in Education from the UCLA School of Medicine. He also received the UCLA Academic Senate Distinguished Lecturer Award for Non-Senate Faculty in 2003. He has published abstracts in both the Journal of Dental Research and the Journal of Physical Anthropology in the area of Cranio-facial Growth and Analysis, and is currently involved in several Dental Materials research studies at the School of Dentistry. He has published articles on dental materials in Operative Dentistry and more recently on principles of teaching Evidence-Based Dentistry in the Journal of Evidenced Based Dental Practice.

Dr. Stevenson III is a member of the Academy of Operative Dentistry. He was an Executive Councilor of the Academy of Operative Dentistry for three years before serving as President in 2003; thereafter, he held the position of Assistant Secretary and has been appointed Secretary in 2008. He is Board Certified in Operative Dentistry by the American Board of Operative Dentistry and is an ABOD Examiner. He is a Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry and the Academy of Dentistry, International. Dr. Stevenson III has been a member of the Orange County R.V. Tucker Cast Gold Study Club since 1991 and has demonstrated cast and direct gold techniques at both the Academy of R.V. Tucker Study Clubs and the American Academy of Gold Foil Operators annual meetings. In 2003, Dr. Richard V. Tucker appointed Dr. Stevenson III as the mentor of the Los Angeles Cast Gold Study Club and the Cast Gold Club of Lima, Peru. Dr. Stevenson III is currently the Secretary of the Academy of R.V. Tucker Clubs and served as President. Dr. Stevenson III is both a lecturer and instructor in the UCLA Aesthetic Continuum. Dr. Stevenson has given over 500 continuing education presentations and table clinics internationally including Japan, Korea and Canada. Recently, he was inducted as an associate member in the Academy of Restorative Dentistry; the only other UCLA Faculty to have achieved this honor, was Professor Robert Wolcott. Currently, Dr. Stevenson III is a Clinical Professor and has served as the Chair of the Division of Restorative Dentistry at the UCLA School of Dentistry since 1999.

TREASURER - Dr. Joel M. Wagoner
(Chapel Hill, North Carolina)


After graduating from Duke University in 1971, Dr. Wagoner entered dental school at the University of North Carolina School of Dentistry where he earned his D.D.S. degree in 1975. For two years, he served in the U. S. Army Dental Corps at Ft. McPherson in Atlanta, Georgia, where he was awarded the U. S. Army Commendation Medal. In 1977, he began his private practice of general dentistry in Beckley, WV, an endeavor which he enjoyed for twenty-four years. Currently, Dr. Wagoner practices full-time in Chapel Hill, NC, and also teaches clinical operative dentistry at the University of North Carolina School of Dentistry.

Besides the Academy of Operative Dentistry, Dr. Wagoner is a member of the American Academy of Gold Foil Operators, The American Dental Association, The North Carolina Dental Society, and is a Fellow of the International College of Dentists. He is a certified member of the American Board of Operative Dentistry, and serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Operative Dentistry. His study club affiliations are the George M. Hollenback Operative Dentistry Seminar and the Butler- Ross Study Club.

He and his wife, Presley, are the proud parents of three children, Merritt, Andrew and Mary Elizabeth.

ASSISTANT SECRETARY - Dr. Gregory E. Smith
(Gainesville, Florida)


Dr. Smith graduated from the University of Washington School of Dentistry in 1965 and earned a postdoctoral Master of Science in Dentistry degree from the same University with a major in Restorative Dentistry in 1972. He joined the University of Florida Faculty in 1972. In 1974 he assumed chairmanship of the Division of Operative Dentistry at the School of Dentistry at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center, Denver; and then served CU as Associate Dean as well from 1976-1979. He returned to UF as Chairman of the Department of Operative Dentistry in 1979 and served as chair from 1979-1984, and again from 1991 until August 1998. He has lectured internationally and authored many scholarly papers in referred journals in the 35 years of his academic career.

He has served on the American Dental Association's National Board of Test Construction Committees on Dental Anatomy and also on Operative Dentistry and is presently serving on the National Board Test Construction Committee for the Part II Case Based Examination. In 1998 He was honored by the Academy of Operative Dentistry with its award: The Award of Excellence, for 30 years in academic dentistry and for 27 years of service to the Academy which he continues to serve as Secretary. Dr. Smith was elected Assistant Secretary of the Academy of Operative Dentistry in 1974, and then as Secretary in 1991; and he has held that position continually since that date.

His professional affiliations include Fellowship in the American and International Colleges of Dentistry; membership in Omicron Kappa Upsilon, and past President of the UF chapter; member of Delta Sigma Delta dental fraternity and Lambda Chi Alpha social fraternity. He is the founding mentor of two dental study clubs, member of the ADEA, in which he is past president of the Operative Dentistry section; a member of Sigma Xi research honorary society at the University of Florida, and the ADA.

Immediate Past President - Dr. William E. "Rusty" Morris

)

Dr. Morris started life in southeastern North Carolina near the coast. He graduated from NCSU in 1974 and from UNC- Chapel Hill School of Dentistry in 1978. He owned his own practice in Eden, NC for 28 years before moving to VA. Dr. Morris is currently in full time private practice at Smith Mountain Lake.

Since joining the academy in 1982, he has presented table clinics and been a member of the Seminar Committee, Special Projects Committee and Executive Council. Dr. Morris currently serves as Trustee and Secretary/Treasurer of the AOD Founders' Fund.

Dr. Morris has been actively involved with the Hollenback-Medina Operative Dentistry Seminar since 1981. He is a member of the American Academy of Gold Foil Operators and a fellow in the International College of Dentists. He is Vice-President of the Dental Foundation of North Carolina and is a recent graduate of the Institute for Teaching and Learning Program offered through the Academy for Academic Leadership.

EXECUTIVE COUNCILOR - Dr. Amer A. Abu-Hanna

Dr. Abu-Hanna received his DDS degree at the University of Iowa, Iowa City, Iowa USA in 1991. He then moved back to his home town of Nazareth, where he opened a general practice clinic and also he practiced at Kopat Holim in Biet Shaan for five years.

In 1996 he moved back to the United States where started his training in Esthetic Dentistry also at University of Iowa. In 1998 he received his certificate in Operative Dentistry (majoring in Esthetic Dentistry) and his Master of Science Degree focusing on Adhesion to Dentin.

In 1998 he was appointed an Assistant Professor and the director of Esthetic and Operative Dentistry division at the University Of Pennsylvania School Of Dental Medicine.

In 2001 he moved to the University Of Florida School Of Dentistry and was appointed as Associate clinical professor.

Dr. Abu-Hanna has directed numerous courses in Operative and Esthetic Dentistry and gave many continuing dental education courses in the United States.

He served on many committees; most notably he is an “Executive Counselor, at the Executive Board of the Academy of Operative Dentistry.

He is an international lecturer on adhesives and esthetic and operative techniques.

Has published many articles in peer reviewed and web based journals.

He is a certified continuing dental education lecturer in the United States.

He is Cerec 3D certified instructor for Sirona Inc USA.

He has several honors but notably; Was Inducted as a member to The Honor Dental Society “Omicron Kappa Upsilon” in 2005.

Won the University of Florida College of Dentistry “Teacher of the Year” Award and the Clinical Professor of the Year for the 2004 – 2005 Year.

Was inducted as a Fellow of the “International College of Dentists” FICD- in 2007.

Currently Dr Abu-Hanna has a practice in his home town of Rieneh Village, his practice is devoted primarily to Operative and Esthetic Dentistry.

 


EXECUTIVE COUNCILOR - Dr. Mark Cruz

Mark A Cruz graduated from the UCLA School of Dentistry in 1986 and started a dental practice in Monarch Beach, CA upon graduation. He has lectured nationally and internationally and is a member of various dental organizations including the Pierre Fauchard Academy, Pacific Coast Society for Prosthodontics and the American Academy of Restorative Dentistry. He currently teaches part-time at UCLA, is a member of the faculty group practice and was past assistant director of the UCLA Center for Esthetic Dentistry. EXECUTIVE COUNCILOR - Dr. Eben A. Dearmond, Jr

Dr. Eben "Dee" DeArmond, Jr. is a 1978 graduate of The University of Tennessee at Knoxville, and 1982 graduate of The University of Tennessee School of Dentistry at Memphis. He has practiced general and restorative dentistry in his hometown of Cleveland, TN since graduation.

Dr. DeArmond became a member of the Operative Academy in 1989 and has not missed a meeting since. "The Academy has been one of the finest educational resources in my professional career. Many of my greatest friendships have developed thru the meetings of the Academy and its Study Clubs".

Dr. DeArmond has been active in organized dentistry as well as several other academies and study clubs. He has served at local, state, and national levels of the ADA. During a three-year appointment to The TN Board of Dentistry, he served as president of the Board of Dentistry for his last 11/2 years of his service. He continues to work with the Southern Regional Testing Agency as an examiner and serves on SRTA's Examination Committee.

Current professional memberships are held in The Academy of Operative Dentistry, The Academy of Gold Foil Operators, The Academy of Restorative Dentistry, and The Hollenback-Medina Operative Dentistry Seminar. He is a member of The L.D. Pankey Alumni Association and serves on The Council of Advisors to The L. D. Pankey Foundation. He is a member of the Pankey Institute Visiting Faculty.

He has been honored as a Fellow in The American College of Dentists and The International College of Dentists. His service to the Tennessee Dental Association has been acknowledged by recipient of The Fellowship Award. He is also a Paul Harris Fellow in The Rotary Club.

His interests outside of dentistry include golf, fly fishing, gentleman farming, and travel with his wife, Denise. He and Denise are active supporters of The Cleveland Public Library Foundation, The Rotary Club Foundation, The Boy Scouts of America, Junior Achievement, and The Cleveland Family YMCA. Dr. DeArmond and Denise are members of Broad Street United Methodist Church. They are both avid fans of University of Tennessee football and basketball.

EXECUTIVE COUNCILOR - Dr. Thomas J. Hilton

Dr. Tom Hilton received his DMD from the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine in 1978 and entered the U. S. Air Force that same year. In 1984, he completed a two-year Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD-2) residency at Wilford Hall Medical Center, Lackland AFB, San Antonio, TX.

In 1999, he retired from the Air Force after 21 years of active duty, most recently having served as the Assistant Chairman for Resident Education for the Air Force AEGD-2 residency at Wilford Hall Medical Center, and chief of the USAF Dental Investigation Service (the Air Force dental research branch).

Dr. Hilton joined the faculty of Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) in March of 1999, and received his MS in Biomaterials and Biomechanics from OHSU in 2003. He currently holds the position of Alumni Centennial Professor in Operative Dentistry. Dr. Hilton is board certified by the American Board of General Dentistry.

He is the past-president of the Dental Materials Group for the American Association for Dental Research and serves as a consultant for the American Dental Association¹s Council on Scientific Affairs. His areas of research interest include practice-based dental research, and he is currently the director of the Practice-based Research in Oral Health (PROH) network in Oregon and southern Washington.

Dr. Hilton is also involved in the laboratory and clinical evaluation of factors affecting the performance of dental composites and adhesives. In addition to teaching and research responsibilities, he maintains a private dental practice in Beaverton.

Dr. Nairn H.F. Wilson

Nairn Wilson is currently Professor of Restorative Dentistry and Dean and Head of the Dental Institute, King's College London at Guy's, King's and St Thomas' Hospitals. He has been is this post since October 2001. Also he is Executive Secretary of the Council of Deans of the UK Dental Schools. He was President of the General Dental Council from 1999 to 2003. He is a Honorary (Visiting) Professor of Restorative Dentistry, University of Manchester. Previous positions included Consultant Adviser in Restorative Dentistry to the Chief Medical Officer, Dean of the University Dental Hospital of Manchester, Dean of the Faculty of Dental Surgery of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and Pro-Vice Chancellor of the University of Manchester.

His interests and special expertise lie in the fields of tooth-coloured restorative systems, applied dental materials science, clinical trial methodology and dental education. Much of his research on new materials, novel instrumentation and operative procedures is practise-based.

He remains active clinically and in research, with a number of positions nationally and internationally, including, Immediate-Past President of the Academy of Operative Dentistry, European Section and President of the European Federation of Conservative Dentistry.

Achievements in Academy activities include Buonocore Memorial Lecturer in 1990 and Hollenback Memorial Prize winner in 2002
